Traffic and being mobile in Turkey, isn't expensive and nothing to be afraid of. It doesn' t has to be the own car initially when you move to turkey, there is a big competition between rent a car companies, that it's easy to rent a new compact car for aprox. 20,- € daily.
Buying a car, is not as simple as in europe. there are quite a lot of important regulations and market curiosities to be considered as mentioned below, before you purchase a car in Turkey. You also need a residential permission to buy and register a car on your name in Turkey. Taking your own car to Turkey is only posible up to 6 month a year. after 6 month the car has to be taken out of turkey. It is possible to register the car in Turkey as guest vehicle but the costs for this procedure are very high and quite difficult, the expenses could easily exceed the prices for a comparable car bought in Turkey.
Anual tax and car prices in Turkey, very importand is to consider the anual tax for specific cars before you choose one, as seen below on the form, anual tax for a 4,0 liter car may cost you 11000 ytl (7000.- €) yearly.
This is one of the reasons why older cars are up to 10 times more expensive than in Europe.
The main rule for car prices in Turkey is, small turkish cars loose a minimum of their value after years. for example a 15 years old fiat 131 still costs moore then 6000,-- Ytl because its tax and insurance is so inexpensive. New compact cars are 10% - 20% more expensive, while luxury cars may cost twice as much because of customs and luxury tax.
