Fethiye
is among the most important touristic centres of Turkey, but its also a
vibrant, traditional Turkish town with a strong economy, living from
agriculture and fishing.
With its cultural wealth, natural
beauties and geography, This charming county is in a bay within Fethiye
Gulf with stunning views to the 12 islands . The rear of the bay is
surrounded by pine forests. Close to Fethiye there are some fabulous
beach resorts like Hisaronu
with it's famous Olu Deniz "Blue Lagoon" where the water quality and
temperature is always over 20 degrees, even in january,(the film " Blue
Lagoon was made here). The wide sweeping sandy beach of Fethiye Olu
Deniz is an award winning beach. Calis beach across the Fethiye bay is
right in the town of Fethiye and very popular for tourists and locals .
The
local scenery is more than beautiful, with mountains, rising higher
then 5,000 feet where the tomb of King Amyntashe thrones over the town
of Fethiye.The Mount Babadag only 30 minutes from Fethiye town centre,
is an important paragliding centre.
A few km more south is the
famous Butterfly Valley which can be only reached by boat. Countless
little coves surrounded by pine forests as seen on the pictures, makes
Fethiye to the Paradise on earth for Sailors. Patara beach
with 18 km the biggest beach in Turkey and just half kilometres shorter
than Miami beach, is aprox. 90 minutes from Fethiye by car. Dalyan
and Iztuzu Beach only 1 hour away, both World famous beaches with
several miles long sandy beaches and crystal clear blue waters of the
Mediterranean. Only half an hour drive heading north is Gocek a small resort with a nice marina
The
old town centre in Fethiye is a maze of narrow winding streets with
local crafts shops, leather, carpets, spice, sweet shops and with
little bars, restaurants with a diverse mix. There is a huge array of
basic to fine restaurants all bidding for your custom, from traditional
Turkish through to fine European dining.
Temperature, which is approximately 34 degrees during the summer months, is generally over 15 degrees during winter. Sea water temperature never decreases under 16 degrees even in the winter.
The
nicest place to live in Fethiye is Ovacik, on the main road from
Fethiye to Olu Deniz and close to Fethiye' s entertainment centre, Hisaronu in the south or Yaniklar
heading north, just 20 km from Fethiye town centre but also close to
the airport, calis beach, situated very central within short distance
to all amenities and if you are looking for nature pure to live on the
country side see Kemer and Uzumlu, only half hour drive to Fethiye centre.
Fethiye is only 30 minutes away from Dalaman International Airport and can be reached from all big European Airports directly.
Fethiye can be reached also by daily ferry boats from Greece over Rhodos during the Summer.
